Natural Fiber and Breeding Stock
The Crooked Fence Farm flock is a relatively new breed called California Red. They are hearty sheep well adapted to hot climates, and very mild tempered. We raise our sheep 100% on grass in an intensive rotational grazing program. California Reds are prized for the beautiful copper color of their wool. |
Since our sheep have a gorgeous ivory fleece with cinnamon strands running through we wanted to take our first year to highlight their fiber naturally. Our 2019 line features four natural (undyed) color ways. Two DK and Two Aran (light worsted).
An immense amount of care goes into every part of our fiber process from Lambing to Skeining. All of our sheep are born on our farm, shorn by the incredible Emily Chamelin, skirted on farm, and processed at our fiber mill by Battenkill Fibers. We personally wash every skein in a Soak wool wash to ensure that they are supple and ready to knit with! |
